Luck plays a large role in endangered species research at PDXWildlife, due to the fact that wildlife can be unpredictable. Today was one of those days, but in a very cool way. With a surprise visit from the Director of the CCRCGP- Zhang Hemin, the Bifengxia base sprung into action to gather all 18 panda cubs for a massive photo opportunity. The lucky part is that we were invited.

PDXWildlife Cub Parents

With 18 panda cubs currently here at Bifengxia, the base is certainly busy. If you have never seen a panda cub up close, they are one of the cutest, awe inspiring, fluffy balls of fur imaginable. All of the cubs here are between the ages of 1-4 months, which means that they are very clumsy, adventurous, and can let out a fairly loud cry when they are separated from their mother. When all 18 line up for a photo, this only seems to intensify.

Everyone is required to wear coveralls when handling a cub, and only a few people were given this opportunity. After 5 years of having a constant presence at Bifengxia, we are eternally grateful for the opportunity to participate in a once in a lifetime moment. Hope you enjoy the photos and can visit us in the future.
