I just finished working in the Gulf of Mexico for the remainder of the year on the Deepwater Horizon/Mississippi Canyon 252 Oil Spill Damage Assessment. You wouldn’t guess it from the pictures, but it is actually hard work. Although I am unable to talk about the specifics of any conclusions, we are very pleased with our results.
Working in the Gulf is very different from working in the Pacific Northwest. First and foremost is the humidity. This takes some getting used to. The temperature while I was in Florida was a mild 110 degrees with 90% humidity. No one can get used to that. But, it doesn’t always remain that hot. When I returned later in the fall the temperature would actually get to near freezing.
I hope I am able to return next year and visit all of the exciting individuals and ecologically diverse Gulf states. If you ever are able to get down on the Mississippi in its final leg of its journey out on the Louisiana Delta, be sure to snap some of the most amazing photos of the skyline.
